Alinda DuPree Burns passed peacefully February 15, 2018. Alinda, or “Nana” as she was called by her grandchildren, fought a long and courageous battle with cancer since being diagnosed in 2011. Among many great qualities, she was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother and loyal friend to many.
Alinda grew up in Augusta, Ga and graduated from Richmond Academy. She and Harry, or Butch as he is affectionately called, met in Augusta, Georgia in 1971. In 1972 they married and about 10 years later moved to Marietta, Georgia where she laid down their roots. Together, they raised three beautiful children; Bryan, Kevin and Leslie, and have four grandchildren; Mackenzie (15), Logan (13), Brooks (11) and Colton (9) which were her heart and joy. Alinda made a name for herself in many capacities; from being a second mom to many, to being a Kindergarten Teacher, a Brownie Troop Leader, a Cub Scouts Leader, a PTA President, a Soccer Team Mom, a Decorator, a talented Baker, a Swim Instructor, a "Girlfriend," an Executive Director, an Entrepreneur, and a partner at A&K Affairs. But what she did best, was devote herself to her family above all else. She loved her family fiercely and would protect, encourage and give to her family with everything she could. That was ever so evident up until the end, as we knew she was fighting as hard as she could to be here with us as long as possible.
We are so thankful for the time we did have with her here on this Earth and for the love she shared. She touched so many of us in such different ways, from being a welcoming neighbor, to sharing her home with others and loving on them just the same as her own family. We know she will still be with us as we cheer on the Dawgs on breezy fall days, and as we sip an ice cold margarita while listening to Jimmy Buffet, and as we lay in the warm sun while at the beach or the pool. She will be forever in our hearts and always in our memories.
Thank you to the many friends and family members for all the loving support and kindness you extended to our mother during her illness. We especially thank you for loving her so well over all these many years.
Butch, Bryan, Kevin, Renee and Leslie
