On October 20th, 2023, our precious Rebecca Lynn McLain, 46, of Marietta, GA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, after a prolonged battle with lymphoma. Rebecca fought hard to continue living on this earth as a wife, mother, daughter, aunt, and friend, but God had other plans for her life, and she is now in the arms of our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Rebecca married her best friend and love of her life, David McLain, on August 7th, 1999, in Virginia Beach, VA. For 5 years after they were married, Dave and Rebecca lived in Columbus, Indiana, where they had their first son, Reid. They moved to Williamsburg, VA in late 2004, where they had their next two sons, Riley and Rowan. In 2010, the family of five moved to Suzhou, China, where they became a family of six in 2011 when they adopted their beautiful Lilly. The family moved to Marietta, GA, at Christmas time in 2015, and continue to call this home today.
Rebecca loved Jesus first and that was evident in the way she loved her family and the people around her. She was a true example of how a Godly woman should live. She grew up in a loving family where she excelled in school and was both an avid softball player and all-state violinist throughout high school. It was in high school youth group at Great Neck Baptist Church where she first met Dave. She and Dave dated throughout college and began their life as husband and wife before their senior year. The life they built together was full of adventures while making exceptional friendships and instilling Christ-like values into their children. Her family and the friends that she made along the journey of life, were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to her throughout her illness.
Rebecca, the youngest of three children, was born on March 7th, 1977, to Fredric (Fritz) Hirchert and Judy (Hirchert) Hardy, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1995, she graduated from Frank W Cox High School and went on to Virginia Tech where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Rebecca spent the first few years after she graduated working for Cummins Inc. in Columbus, Indiana, but after the birth of Reid, she left the corporate world to ultimately follow her dream of becoming a homemaker, including the home schooling of all four of her children. Her constant love of learning and teaching led her to work as a math teacher starting at Timothy Ministries in 2021 where she worked until she became ill.
Rebecca enjoyed spending time with her family, was dearly loved by all who knew her, and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Dave, their four children: Reid (Mercer College), Riley (University of Alabama Huntsville), Rowan, and Lilly (both at home); father Fritz (Joan) Hirchert of Virginia Beach, mother Judy (Mike) Hardy of Mount Dora, Florida; her brother, Bill (Jane) Hirchert of Wellington, Florida; her sister Brook (John) Lamm of Twin Falls, Idaho, as well as several nieces and nephews: Reagan, Bronson, Morgan, Isaac, Maddox, May, Isaac, and Sam; and many friends who became family to her.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023, from 11:00am – 12:00pm at NorthStar Church in Kennesaw, GA. The family will receive guests directly following the memorial service.
