Harold Preston Petty, age 80, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Monday, June 7, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. James Parham and Rev. Larry Shreiner officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Marietta.
Born in Waycross, GA, Mr. Petty moved to Marietta in 1966. He had a long successful career in the Fire Protection industry, most notably 27 years with Automatic Sprinkler. He held many technical, supervisory and sales positions over the years, and was a proud member of the Sprinkler Fitters Local 669 for 58 years.
Mr. Petty was a longtime active member of Gospel Light Community Church (formerly First Evangelical Methodist of Marietta). He was involved in many ministries of the church, including administration, pastoral relations, teaching and representing the local church at regional and national conferences of the Evangelical Methodist denomination.
The delight of Mr. Petty's life were his four grandchildren, and he enjoyed watching their many sports and musical activities over the years. He felt especially blessed to have become a great grandfather and enjoyed participating in two birthdays and Christmas holidays with his beloved great granddaughter.
Mr. Petty enjoyed traveling with his wife to all regions of the United States, with his most memorable trips being to Alaska and Hawaii. He also enjoyed playing golf, and appreciated the opportunities to get outdoors for scenic hikes and the occasional camping trip in years past.
Most of all, Mr. Petty cherished the love of his life, Yevonne, and the time he spent with her.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Petty and Ronald Petty, and a son, Chris Petty in 2012.
Survivors include: Wife of 60 years, Yevonne Petty; Son, Tony (Lisa) Petty, Dallas, GA; 4 Siblings, Frances Carter, Shirley Griffin, Hinton (Cheryl) Petty and Gloria (Wayne) Valdes; 4 Grandchildren, Trevor Petty, Nathan Petty, Lydia (Cody) Hulsey and Nicholas Petty; Great Granddaughter, Savannah Hulsey, and many Nieces and Nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
